Name:
Tokage Shita "Lizard Tongue"
Age:
13
Gender:
Male ♂
Chakra Elements:
Water & Earth
Village:
Haigakure
Clan:
None, abandoned
Rank:
Genin
Personality:
Tokage is a very mischievous boy. Not to say that he is a bad kid, he’s actually kind-hearted, but he enjoys causing trouble and annoying the people around him who he doesn’t see as “smart” or “intelligent”. He has a very high image of himself after living alone for so long, sometimes thinking things like “he isn’t of my caliber” or “I’m far superior to him”. His sharp tongue and his guile are some of his most defining traits, strategizing rather than charging into something. Surprisingly cunning for someone his age and even more so for someone who grew up under his conditions. Sometimes he can seem a bit dark and puts off an aura of hatred towards anyone he doesn’t want to be around… sometimes even towards the ones he wants to be around with his twisted sense of humor. Not only is he smart, but he has the literacy sense to put it to good use, leading some people around by the nose to get what he desires. If not for that, he wouldn’t have made it on the streets as a kid.
All of his brains aside, he still has some strong, self-destructive habits, such as risk-taking when it isn’t necessary and gambling.
He usually puts forth an image of wanting to be alone with the 7-Tailed Beast, even though he really wishes he had more friends. It isn’t as if he doesn’t want to act kind towards people or be friendly, he’s just afraid of them abandoning him as his parents did when he was a baby. The scars left by his infancy have left him being socially awkward when it comes to friend-making. One might say that he is like a chocolate ball with a mushy, melted center; he puts up a hard front against anyone he doesn’t know or doesn’t accept, but is really soft and warm on the inside. His only real trouble is that most people don’t have the patience to dig past that thick, hard coating that surrounds his true personality.
He always remembers his fellow orphans, however, and someday hopes to better life for them as he has bettered his own life through the way of a Shinobi.
History:
When Tokage was born his parents, being of a high and proud aristocracy in the Hidden Leaf Village, put him to many tests. In undergoing these procedures, it was discovered that Tokage did not possess a strong chakra pool and that he would likely grow up to be physically weaker than many another ninja. His parents would not have this and simply tossed him aside, placing him up for adoption saying things like “A family that can’t afford a better child can have him… we won’t have filth such as this baby staining our family legacy!”
Thus, Tokage was placed in an orphanage along with other children whom had been abandoned or lost their families in war or battle. Tokage, however scarred he had been on the inside from never knowing his parent’s faces, quickly became a king pin at the orphanage, using his heightened intelligence to take what he wanted and use the dimwitted brawns-for-brains children to defend himself. He soon became the leader of a small group of orphaned children, using his cunning and guile to steal from the residents of Konoha and get what he needed for his “family” of orphaned children.
This eventually began to cause a lot of trouble for the orphanage, as the villagers became blatantly aware of the fact that he and his friends resided there. The matrons at the orphanage separated Tokage from the others, giving him his own room and locking the door at night, watching him closely by day. However, he swiftly developed a new system for getting the other children what they needed, passing notes trough a small crack he made in the shoddy wooden walls behind his bed. The instructions on the note would be passed around from room to room, from group to group, memorized and burned. Tokage would get what the orphanage would give him, and the other kids would get what they could take with Tokage’s plans. Even if he hadn’t been a part of them, Tokage enjoyed reading about the success of his strategies in the notes given to him by the other kids.
Sadly, this wouldn’t last, as it came to the matrons’ attention once again that the other kids were performing these “crimes.” They didn’t see it as crimes, and neither did Tokage. They saw it as survival.
Finally, Tokage turned 10 and was taken from his room in the orphanage and pushed onto the streets by the “matron” that had looked after him. “You’re old enough to take care of yourself, and we can’t have you causing anymore trouble of the orphanage will get shut down,” she explained in a harsh, scolding tone, “you’re from a well-to-do Shinobi family, why don’t you go to the academy and learn to be one? This is for the well-being of the other orphans, too, you know!”
Tokage wouldn’t have it. He turned to the old woman and began to shout, losing his usual cool “those kids are my family! They need me!!”
“Well then find some other way to help them,” the old bag silently remarked, slamming the door in his face.
Broken and expelled from the one place he could call “home”, Tokage took to the streets, stealing and pillaging stalls and shops on the market street. Eventually, though, he passed by the academy and thought that maybe, just maybe, if he DID become a Shinobi he could make enough money to help pay for those other orphans and maybe better their lives. They had been younger than him and probably wouldn’t get out of there for a long time. In that moment he realized what he would eventually come to know as his “Shinobi Way”.
He took back to the orphanage and left them one final note that read “Dear family… I’m going to become a Shinobi, a strong one, and make plenty of cash so I can buy you all away from that rotten orphanage and give you a place to live and prosper. Hell, I’ll even teach some of you about ninjutsu if you want! Your Aniki, Tokage Shita.”
Tokage would continue to periodically drop notes off at the orphanage, telling stories about his life as a ninja, although many of them were embellished to entertain the younger orphans.
In reality, Tokage never even became a genin. The diagnosis from when he was an infant had caught up with him and he had been unable to pass his first chance at becoming a genin due to his weak body and his small chakra pool. This would come to pass, however, when he met the 7-Tailed Beast, Mereon (from the Japanse word for Chameleon, Kamereon).
2 years went by swiftly as the two of them became close friends and partners, until it was decided by the Rokudaime Hokage, Uzumaki Naruto, that the two of them would be bound by the Demon Seal, allowing them to fight together with a shared chakra pool. It had been only days before the Mizukage launched his attack on the Village, transforming it into Haigakure.
Although the village stood in shambles without a leader, the pair of Tokage and Mereon passed the genin exams only half a year later. Tokage had overcome one of his biggest weaknesses, being able to access the vast chakra laying within Mereon and using his agility with his long limbs. His cunning and guile got him to be a genin as he is now, and he plans for it to take him much further so that one day he can pay for the children he grew up with and let them live the life he was never able to himself.
Appearance:
Probably the most defining trait of Tokage’s appearance is his height and his extremely long arms and legs. On that note, his height isn’t exactly attributed to his torso but more so to his limbs themselves. He stands at about 6ft at the age of 13, that being extremely tall compared to other genin and slightly taller than most average jonin. Some people expect him to be nearly 7ft tall by the time he turns 16. Along with his height, his face has some more mature features than most kids his age, making some people mistake him for someone a few years older, at least. He weighs in at about 175 pounds due to being pretty skinny yet tall compared to other ninja his age. His hair is a sleek, dark black, slicked back behind his head and flowing to his neck. His hair has a slight valley with two tips, resembling the head of a chameleon.
Also best to be noted is his chameleon’s tongue, adapted from his tailed beast. Being longer than any living ninja’s, he usually lets his tongue out and flicks it around, almost like a chameleon searching for food, although he does keep it in his mouth when he’s confronting someone else unless he’s trying to weird them out.
As for his clothing, he wears a hooded that was specially stitched for him by his friends at the orphanage to fit him and his long limbs. Not only that, but they stitched his ninja headband into the left sleeve, since he was against wearing it saying it was an annoying piece of cloth. The jacket itself is an olive green with a scaly pattern (his friends were messing with him, but he thought it suited him). Underneath it he wears a standard net undershirt. As for pants, he keeps it simply with a fitted pair of dark grey pants that open slightly at his ankles, basically like jeans in looks. His shoes are simply what he could afford: a pair of sandals. He makes do.
Lastly, for details, he wears a bracelet given to him by the orphans around his left wrist, which he treasures deeply. It has a sort of tribal look to it. He also wears a twine necklace with a medallion, which has the number 7 engraved on its surface to represent Mereon, the 7-tailed beast.
